Safeguarding Environment has become a major consideration in everyday activities. New legal frameworks and official government/EU directives to combat pollution and responsible use of resources has become a fact of life. The need to devise intelligent approach to combating potential harm to the environment is no longer an operational after thought but an essential part of the design process to drive out cost. It is no longer a “good to have” attribute but an essential prerequisite which can not only save the environment but also a great deal of cost that may be incurred in penalties of falling foul of the rules and the associated legal cost. Chemical Engineering and associated industry is one of the most vulnerable to these changes and new frameworks. The need to produce new chemicals and materials and the requirement to deliver the produced goods in an efficient manner to the consumer markets is stronger than ever and must now be revised to take note of the new environmental considerations. The modern logistics tools should not only deal with delivering the goods but also take care of the spoiled containers and the potentially hazardous left over material or waste.
